Gallery/Artist Statement
Art in general has been a huge part of my life. I have been drawing from when I was a child and painting since I was a teen. And more recently, I have received my BFA and MFA from Cal State Fullerton in 2015 and 2019 respectively. The education received is a huge part of my art career and continues to grow every day of my life.
My medium of choice is oil paint. The smell of the linseed oil and smoothness of a freshly primed canvas inspires me to create with ease and unforgettable frustration. Painting is a love and hate relationship that pushes new envelopes of excitement. Updating the way that I proceed with anything new starts with an idea and a sketch. These days it begins digitally on a pen display utilizing Photoshop. For me, some color using different PS brushes and a useful collage of cropped and slightly color corrected images, help with a newly discovered composition. Following the rough 2D thought process, I begin to peruse through the colors that I will use on my physical plate glass palette. Then I get to squeeze and mix the creamy pigment and oil into formulations. After I find the right music that will provide the essence of my thought process, I begin to apply the ingredients of my next work. What will it ultimately look like? Will it be what I initially intended it to be? Will it be a portrait, landscape, or a commissioned painting of the family pet? One thing is for sure. Whatever I create takes every ounce of energy out of me. That is why artists love art and create the things they do. |
